We Can Be Immortals

I am nearing the end of the first draft. (It’s okay to clap) Like a shark smelling blood in the water, I am writing in a frenzy because I can see my prey, I can see the end is in sight. Not a hypothetical end, but the actual, celebrating ready for editing type end. I love the feeling of wrapping up a new piece of work. Whether it’s for my own eyes, or something I plan to share with the world, there is great satisfaction in accomplishing your dreams. Starting around It is taken a month, perhaps two, longer than I expected, but I am excited just the same.

Words have an immortal quality. They posses a power that can lift up a congregation. They can lead to a victorious charge to take the hill. They can make a person laugh. They can break someone into tears. That’s why I find writing so fascinating. The Idea that one day, something I write, my words, my inspire emotion in someone else.  I might never write the best seller tear jerking novel. If the only response I get is, I read your book, I hated it… Well, number one you read my book. (Crack open the champagne!) Number two, like it or not, my words evoked an emotional response. Maybe not the one I’m looking for, but even negative feedback can be turned into a positive.

Needless to say, I am very excited about the prospect of finishing this book. It reminds me that even the days I hated writing because nothing was coming easy,  this is what I love, and that’s why I’m doing it. Write your hearts out people! Get your words out there for people to read. In that way, you may get lucky enough to become immortal.
